About
A Colorado Native, I have spent most of my life backpacking and running through the Rocky Mountains. When I moved to Telluride ten years ago I didn't know a soul. Didn't matter. I came here for the land. No other landscape speaks to me as deeply as the San Juan Mountains do.
Out on the trail I take a lot of photos that I work from to create my pastel drawings. I'm not interested in making realistic copies of my photographs. What excites me is conveying the essence of the wild places I've visited and my deep connection to them. For me, The San Juan Mountains are spiritual, magical and stunning.
My drawings of the old mining shacks are figurative. I experience these ruins as individuals and characters. They are an integral part of the landscape and the history of these mountains. Their disintegrating forms are filled with the spirits of the miners who inhabited them.
I have been drawing and painting my entire life. I received a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts with a Minor in Art History from Colorado State University in 1985. After graduating I picked up my first set of soft pastels. I fell in love with their brilliant hues and silky fineness. I knew I'd found my muse.
